Take Action For Recovery

WRAP is a foundational practice at VOR, with WRAP plans initiated first in one-on-one mentoring sessions, and further developed/discussed in ongoing weekly WRAP workshops. In 8 weekly WRAP groups, members receive support in meeting the steps in their WRAP plan with the ultimate goal of avoiding relapse. WRAP groups are currently offered weekly, facilitated by the VOR-certified wrap facilitators.

WRAP is an evidence-based, peer-led practice included on the SAMHSA national registry for evidence-based programs and best practices. The WRAP model was developed with the help of a team of people with lived experience (a crucial component of the proposed project). Since the first edition of the book "wellness recovery action plan" was published in 1997, more than a million wrap books and related resources have been distributed worldwide

WRAP guides participants through the process of identifying and understanding their personal wellness resources ("wellness tools"). The process then helps participants develop an individualized plan to use these resources on a daily basis. It works by decreasing and preventing intrusive or troubling feelings and behaviors; increasing personal empowerment; improving quality of life, and helping people achieve their life goals.

Furthermore, WRAP is being used system-wide in SMC, including for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder (SUD), for homeless clients, for persons in the criminal justice system and with other populations and at other venues. SMC has provided a great deal of support to VORSMC in its adoption of these models - including providing for in-house or external training and serving as advisors and collaborators in the efforts to grow VORSMC to serve more participants and develop sites in additional county-defined community service areas.
